Terra Nil - A brief unsponsored review!
Welcome to Terra Nil! It's a beautiful, simple game with a fun ecological twist! In this game, you are charged with restoring wastelands around the world. Each continent has its own unique geography and challenge to solve. Some wastelands require temperature manipulation, some require stabilization, and there are even more puzzles!
Terra Nil features a few different difficulty levels, allowing for a range of users and skill levels. The difficulty of each wasteland increases as you progress through the restoration. Every section makes you think about your strategies from different angles, using what you learned from each wasteland to find the most efficient ways to restore the world. It is a beautiful way to grow your spacial reasoning, ecological knowledge, and general strategy skills. The goal of the game is to complete the restoration, giving each type of animal what they need, blend biomes to provide the correct resources, and recycle the remnants of your mission to move on to the next. A fun addition to this game? Every map is generated individually and may not be the same between two games! You may have seen other people play the game, but their strategies may not work for the maps you get! It means every time you replay the game from the beginning, you're experiencing something completely new!
The graphics in Terra Nil are absolutely gorgeous! They can be a bit of a drain on your system however, but luckily the developers give you the ability to reduce the quality to better suit your needs. The details of every biome, building, animal, etc, are accurate and precise. Even on the mobile version of the game, zooming in fully reveals individual blades of grass and petals, buzzing bees and water droplets. It is visually stimulating, paired with relaxing audio - similar to that of Tiny Glade.
This game is available on many platforms! For mobile users, it is available via Netflix! If you have a Netflix subscription, you can play the full game for free. It is also available on Steam for $24.99, which is honestly a steal for the quality of this game! The only console it is currently on is the Nintendo Switch, which seems fair. This doesn't seem like the kind of game that would be as stimulating in a large format like PlayStation or Xbox. It's complicated enough to be fun on the Switch and on PC, but simple enough to be a mobile game and relaxing.
In my opinion, this game is relaxing and captivating! I love to play it in the moments between parts of my day! I play it on my phone, so it's perfect for idling at work or waiting for an appointment. You can close the game at almost any point and your progress will be saved. Nothing is time sensitive or rushed. The science-based aspects of this game are fun for people who loved ecology in school, but didn't connect as much with facts and complication. It's beautifully artistic, with the perfect blend of creativity and logic.
If you get a chance to play this game, or have before, drop a comment and let me know what you think! I discovered this game from the Secret Sleepover Society YouTube channel- so also check out their streams on Twitch and VODs on YouTube! Don't forget to relax, take a good look at life and laugh at all the silly things!! :)
